What Do We Do Now?

by Mitch Golob

When I spoke with our clients over the past few days, they are feeling the uncertainty that I believe we are all feeling at this challenging time.  We are in the midst of a global health crisis with fears of a global economic crisis coming in on its heals.  Many of the active positions they are trying to fill have been put on hold and other hiring initiatives have been postponed.  Inherent in the definition of uncertainty is that we simply do not know what is going to happen next.  So what do we do in the meantime?  Well, I tell my clients and my team that we will just have to wait to see.  Nothing to do but wait it out.

Of course I don’t tell them THAT!  We at Corporate Navigators are not sitting around waiting for the proverbial storm to pass.  Like many of you, we took a moment to adjust to our new reality of working, updated our Zoom conferencing subscriptions, and disinfected everything we ever touched or might touch in the future.  But after that, we have been taking this time to reevaluate some long term planning goals for our company and using this opportunity to check in with our clients.

To our clients we say “We are here to help”.  How can we help during this difficult moment in our world?  The reality is they may not need any help from us right now, but we still want to make it clear to them that we are available to assist when that time comes.  And I would offer one suggestion, knowing that it is a matter of when, not if, recruiting efforts get back to normal.  I would ask them to think about their talent pipeline.  Many of our clients have ongoing needs for specific types of roles (i.e. Software Developers, Regional Sales Representatives, Underwriters, etc.).  While their current requisition may be “up in the air”, a client may still be expected to hire 50+ Software Engineers in the next 12-18 months.  Now could be a perfect time to build that pool of real-time candidates, ready to go as you need them as a part of our Talent Pipeline service.  This might just be the ideal time to take a look at your competitors and make sure you understand who the talent is at those organizations.  Okay, end of commercial for Corporate Navigators and our offerings.

We want to take this opportunity to let our clients know that we are here.  And if there is anything we can do to help, we are available and ready to go.  We hope everyone stays safe, healthy, and at home!
